Meet the Class of 2022 Commencement Speaker: Jimmy Munro ’22
As the countdown to Commencement continues, the Class of 2022 is busy finishing final projects, figuring out their next steps, making memories – and of course, getting ready to celebrate their accomplishments. This year, we are pleased to announce that Jimmy Munro ’22 will represent the Class of 2022 as the Commencement Speaker for ¶¶ÒõÆƽâ°æ’s 156th Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 7, 2022.
“Being chosen as the Commencement speaker means the world to me,” said Jimmy. “My past four years here I have spent so much time getting involved on campus that I have met so many great people, and I could not be happier to represent not only the College but those great people who believed in me.”
A Sport Management major and a first-generation college student, Jimmy has been actively involved in a number of campus activities, including spending three years as a New Student Orientation (NSO) Leader. He’s been the softball team manager, the Phonathon supervisor, the Recreational and Intramural Department intern, a community advisor – and even spent one year as a member of the baseball team. Jimmy has also been named to the Dean’s List three times throughout his college career.
All of his campus involvement has enabled Jimmy to not only form meaningful connections, but also become who he is today. “Dean has impacted me over the past four years in such a positive way it is hard to put into words,” he said. “A shy boy at orientation was turned into an outgoing student leader that encapsulates everything Dean stands for. I would not be the same person I am today if I did not attend Dean.” He counts his time as an NSO leader as making one of the biggest impacts throughout his time at Dean. “Being a student leader that other students are comfortable approaching with any questions or concerns has put me in such a unique position that I wouldn’t trade for the world.”
Come fall, Jimmy will be starting a master’s degree in Sport Leadership at Endicott College as he prepares for a career in sport event management. But first, he’s looking forward to getting up on stage in a few weeks and giving his speech to his fellow classmates, as well as hearing his name called to cross the stage and receive his degree from Dr. Rooney. “I’m also looking forward to being with my graduating class one last time,” he added. “Being around them for the past four years has led me to create unforgettable memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.”
Congratulations to Jimmy and to the entire Class of 2022! ¶¶ÒõÆƽâ°æ’s 156th Commencement Ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. on the front lawn of Dean Hall, along Awpie Way.
