Now Playing: The Theory of Relativity
The School of the Arts at ¶¶ÒõÆƽâ°æ presents its first theatre production of the semester, The Theory of Relativity. Through a collection of songs, scenes and monologues, The Theory of Relativity introduces a compelling array of characters experiencing the joys and heartbreaks, the liaisons and losses, the inevitability, and the wonder of human connection. The Theory of Relativity opens TONIGHT and will run through this Sunday, October 17, 2021.
Actors Sara Chemi ’23 (Mira), Nikita Darosa ’22 (Carolyn), and Ethan Lazaro ’23 (Ensemble/Understudy) answered a few questions about the production.
Q: What is your role in this performance? Tell us a little about your character.
Sara (Mira): “I will be playing Mira. Mira is a dedicated student who has been best friends with her mom all her life and realizes the gift of her relationship with her mom.”
Nikita (Carolyn): “My role in this production is Carolyn! She’s an outgoing girl, a little frisky. For her story, she talks about an ex-boyfriend she thought she loved but ended up causing her some trauma.”
Ethan (Ensemble): “I am an ensemble member and an understudy.”
Q: Can you see yourself in this character? If so, how?
Sara (Mira): “I see myself in Mira a lot because my mom is my best friend, and I am grateful for her every day.”
Nikita (Carolyn): “Yes, I could see myself in this character. The story she has is pretty relatable to past experiences I’ve had in relationships. With that, it allows me to express her story more and more each time I perform it.”
Ethan (Ensemble): “I think regardless of who you are, you can see yourself as one of the people on stage because the story is so real and relatable that no matter who you are or where you come from, this is your story.”
Q: What are you most excited for the audience to see?
Sara (Mira): “I am so excited for the audience to hear the music. It is all so beautifully written and is absolutely glorious on stage.”
Nikita (Carolyn): “I’m SO excited for the audience to see the whole cast on stage the whole time. That and the set. And the slideshow. Just everything about it! It’s a show, I’m sure, none of the cast members have ever done before!”
Ethan (Ensemble): “I can't wait for the audience to see the hard work and dedication of every single person on stage. We have worked so hard and especially coming out of a pandemic, theatre is back and better than ever.”
Q: What is your favorite part about participating in the show?
Sara (Mira): “My favorite part of this show is working with this fantastic cast – everyone is so talented and it’s truly amazing to work with them.”
Nikita (Carolyn): “My favorite part of participating in this show is being a part of a cast and crew that is so wholesome and loving. We all understand each other, and the work ethic is balanced throughout the rehearsal process and through tech week. I love the energy we receive when seeing each other, and no matter how tired I am from rehearsal, I’m never ready to leave.”
Ethan (Ensemble): “My favorite part is the community and family that we have created in such a short amount of time.”
