Senior Dance Majors Showcase Their Expertise and Creativity
The Joan Phelps Palladino School of Dance will feature the talents of senior dance majors in the Dance Senior Showcase on Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22, 2023.
Creating a performance from the ground up, our talented senior dance students will share their choreography, performance, and production expertise in this annual collaborative showcase.
One of those senior choreographers is Hayley White ’23, a double major in Dance and Health Science. For the showcase, Hayley is choregraphing a piece titled “Everyone, Everyone” – and instead of featuring her fellow dance majors, her piece stars Dean’s very own faculty and staff.
“I wanted to experiment with working with people who range from some past technical dance training to no experience at all,” Hayley explained. “My goal was to put the ‘human’ back into movement, and to also give the opportunity for building community and connections. My creative process is centered around inviting people from all walks of life and creating an environment that is safe to experiment, collaborate, and learn something new in.”
As both the Senior Showcase and the end of her senior year draw near, Hayley has been reflecting on what the Dance program has meant to her.
“My favorite part about the dance program at Dean is the numerous opportunities I have to showcase my work, and participate and host creative processes throughout my time here,” she said.
And as for the premiere of “Everyone, Everyone” at the Dance Senior Showcase, Hayley said: “I am most excited for students to see their professors, advisors, or other faculty and staff in a performance art that they may never see again!”
