Sports Broadcasting major Justin Hill ’24 is no stranger to the broadcast studio. This summer, he’s applying what he’s learned on campus in his role as a studio intern at , a community television station in New York City.

“As an intern, I am part of the studio crew on the productions for daily live programming,” explained Justin. “I've also had the opportunity to work on programs interviewing local political candidates, and one Republican candidate debate. Each day, my assigned roles change, but my responsibilities include operating the cameras, applying shots as directed, utilizing the prompter, supporting production as floor manager, and production assistant, assisting in the control room, with graphics and CCU. In addition to my responsibilities as an intern, the daily programming allows me to meet people from different walks of life and who are making an impact in New York City.”

He credits both his coursework and involvement at Dean for preparing him for this role, including being a writer for The Dean Daily, the College’s student newspaper, a member of the Dean News Network and a member of the Sports Broadcasting Team.

“I started my internship familiar with some of the equipment used at BronxNet and with what was expected of me, and not intimidated to learn or work on live programming,” Justin said.

The opportunity to work on live television has given Justin valuable real-world experience as he works towards his ultimate goal of launching a career in sports broadcasting.

“My internship at BronxNet gave me the opportunity to experience the daily responsibilities and pressures involved with live television and programming, as well as the opportunity to learn from and work alongside professionals in the media industry,” he said.
