Sports Broadcasting Major Interns at Boston's 98.5 The Sports Hub Radio
At ¶¶ÒõÆƽâ°æ, all students working towards a bachelor’s degree complete an internship – and quite a few of them are participating in internships this summer.
Christina Longo ’25, a Sports Broadcasting major at Dean, is applying what she has learned as a summer intern at “98.5 The Sports Hub” radio station in Boston. We caught up with her to find out more about her experience.
Q: What is a typical day like at your internship?
I work every Monday and Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. and the first hour I get there I help do research for show topics that night before we start the show. In addition, I assist the producer in answering phone calls, help control the YouTube live stream and interact with fans during the live stream broadcast. I also assist with writing up descriptions as we record the show because we then turn it into a podcast where each hour has a description of what’s to come.
Q: How has your Dean experience helped to prepare you for your internship?
My time at ¶¶ÒõÆƽâ°æ, specifically with Professor John Rooke and Professor Vic Michaels, has really helped me come out of my shell and given me the courage to get on the air. I was recently asked to be on air doing a few segments with the host and I feel like my professors at Dean prepared me for this moment. It was really exciting!
Q: How is your internship helping prepare you for your future career?
It is really helping me prepare for my future career because my goal is to be like the next Erin Andrews. I want to be down on the sidelines or in the locker room, interviewing players. But, even if I don’t make it to TV, I now know I would love to do a radio show.
