Building a better NFL: Three Sport Management majors took on this topic in order to win the 2023 New England Sport Management Case Study Competition hosted by Nichols College.

As the lone team representing ¶¶ÒõÆƽâ°æ, Brian Ripley ’23, Josh Tata ’24 and Caleb Bell ’24 were nominated by Patrick Leary, associate professor of Sport Management in the Dean R. Sanders '47 School of Business and their faculty advisor for the competition. The group was tasked with developing a 10-minute presentation that tackled designing a better game plan to increase minority head coaches in the NFL.

Brian, Josh and Caleb competed among 10 student teams representing colleges throughout New England, advancing from the preliminary round to become one of three teams to compete in the finals. They ultimately won the entire competition, which was judged by professionals from the sports industry, including representatives from Octagon, Learfield, UConn Athletics, Boston College and the Worcester Railers.

“I am extremely proud of the tremendous effort put forward by Josh, Brian and Caleb,” said Leary. “This was the first year ¶¶ÒõÆƽâ°æ was represented in the Case Study Competition, and we could not ask for three better student representatives.”
